covid-19 take-home meals

USDA has now extended the Summer Food Service Program through December 31, 2020, or until available federal funding runs out.

What this means for Hardin County families is that ALL children 18 years old or younger will be able to receive breakfast and lunch meals at no cost for the entire 7 days of each week. Children do not have to be enrolled in Hardin County Schools to receive take-home meals. If traditional students are attending school in person that week they will eat 3 days of meals at school, so they will only receive 4 days of meals at pick-up. Meals for the entire week will be distributed on Monday of each week, from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. at each school site. If parents cannot pick up during this timeframe they need to call the cafeteria manager at the school where they are scheduled to pick up and make arrangements to pick up at a different time during school hours.

Meals will need to be pre-ordered by completing the Meal Survey on Hardin County Schools’ Facebook page or using the link below. The Meal Survey goes live at noon on Monday of each week and closes on Wednesday at midnight for meals to be picked up on the following Monday. This will help us to ensure that we have enough meals prepared for everyone. Meals do not have to be picked up at the school the student attends. Children do not have to be present to pick up meals as long as parent has child’s name and picks them up at the school that they registered for on the Meal Survey. If you do not have internet access or need assistance pre-registering for meals, you may call Kristen Tomlinson or Cheryl Cochran at 731.925.3943 to pre-order meals.

In order to provide a wider variety, some of the items in the bag will be frozen (popcorn chicken, hamburger, tater tots, seasoned wedge potatoes, whole kernel corn, breaded chicken fillet, grilled chicken fillet, hamburger buns, breakfast pastries, etc.) and will need to be heated prior to eating. Frozen Fruit Juice Sidekicks are served frozen and will need to be stored in the freezer until ready to eat. Recommended instructions for storage and heating of items that might be included in bags from week to week are below.
